Revenge of the "Grease" Girl

I'm not quite sure why it is that I keep seeing wonderful birds printed on silky tops and dresses, recently bought a dress with a peter pan-esk collar and feel the urge to wear a letterman jacket. While the nerdy days of high school are behind me smart chic is here to stay and with the fall collections hitting store shelves soon it has become apparent that the 1970s are once again dead and that year many designers are looking further back for fall, a "Grease" moment waiting to happen.

Jil Sander / Saks Fifth Avenue
It all started with this sweater, the epitome of vintage varsity
by Jil Sander--in cashmere. The sweater features a rib-knit neckline, cuffs and hem, long raglan sleeves and an intarsia-knit 'J' graphic. Gone are the days where wearing your boyfriend's letterman jacket is chic. It's clear that if you want that kind of status, pick up on of these Jil Sander sweaters.

While running to classes or errands require a certain level of comfort that this sweater offers, for a more pulled together step into a retro style dress with a peter pan collar.

I picked up what I like to call my tea dress a few weeks ago and absolutely love the vibe my orange floral Sugar Lips twirly dress gives off. Since starting my internship I am always trying to find things that are appropriate to wear at an upscale children's boutique and this style of dress completely fits that bill.

Dorothy Perkins
While my dress is no longer for sale, this raspberry printed dress with a navy blue collar is just as cute and stylish. The keystone of the vintage style is modesty. While no girl wants to be completely covered up, by compromising a high neckline for a shorter hem you will hit all the right notes for this trend.

Keep wearing this swishy dress all year by adding navy tights and a sweet cardigan once the weather cools down.
I cannot say that "Grease" is the stylish word without giving the alternative to the sweet silky dress and soft cashmere sweater. As it happens, there is one trend for pants this fall that fits into this set just perfectly.

Balmain / Net-A-Porter
You may remember at the end of the iconic John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John movie that Olivia's character (Sandy) is sick of playing nice and losing her man so she pretty much has an all out makeover of "What Not To Wear" proportions and comes to the end of the year carnival with her hair teased up, all black everything and above all--those leather pants.

These Balmain leather pants are exactly what the modern day "Bad Sandy" would wear. A touch of softness mid-theigh gives these pants an unexpected edge while the gold fixtures class up these fitted wonders.
