“Under the Sea” is the theme of Karl Lagerfeld’s spring 2012 line for Chanel where delicate colors and textures come to life in this elegant yet innovative collection. These pieces--though they are mostly white and pastel--stood out on the white sea-themed runway. Pearls adorned most of the models either in their hair, on their waist as a belt or on their necks. Flowy fabrics, sequins and translucent pieces mimicked the light bursting through the waves of the ocean and into the depths below as the collection came to life on the runway.
There are many different things that exist underneath the salty waters of the sea and just as many ways to achieve a trendy “Under the Sea” look this season.

For a water inspired look, try this blue wide-cut blouse from H&M. Its flowy structure and blue and white pattern mimic the waves of the sea perfectly. Pair the shirt with a white shorts and add the Zad message in a bottle silver necklace and the under pressure beaded bsracelet from LuLu’s to tie the sea inspired look together.

The most dangerous beast in the water can make a huge splash for style is channeled the right way. Instead of performing a back bend and sidestepping all day long to personify the crab, try the coincidence & chance revel dress from Urban Outfitters. This red, vintage lace cut dress styled with the little crab beaded earrings from LuLu’s create the look of a bright red crab in a pinch! I would say to add a pair of Alexander McQueen’s “crab shoes” to fully complete the outfit, however, I’m pretty sure they are impossible to find and a bit out of most peoples price ranges.

For a flowy seaweed look, try broomstick palazzo pants in green from Forever 21, paired with the daydreamer LA chiffon mix raglan tee in brown from Urban Outfitters. Add the Claire Fong under my spell mint fringe earrings and the backstage pass studded green cuff from LuLu’s to complete the look.

One last thing that I found while searching the Internet for deep sea inspired items was this gorgeous Roberto Cavalli shell-print silk-chiffon kaftan from Net-A-Porter. This dress has a beautiful deep red shell print all over with hints of gold glitter detail throughout. Pair this beautiful dress with Chloe metallic leather ballet flats and the Herve Van Der Straeten 24-karat gold-pleated knotted cuff--both also from Net-A-Porter--to complete this lovely and luxurious “Under the Sea” look.
