Nothing Humble About This Much Chic

One perfect September day while wondering through the Meatpacking District I stumbled off the sidewalk and onto the planks of UrbanSpace: Meatpacking. This wonderland of independent food, art, accessory and clothing vendors was an unexpected treat that left me with a full stomach and a purse full of business cards. The greatest discovery of the day was the last vendor I walked through before heading off to The Standard - Humble Chic.

The store's unique blend of stylish quirk and trends left me intrigued and (after joining their emailing list and getting my first blast) fell in love with their selection that truly does bridge the gap between luxury and mass market retail.

The company, founded in 2011 by Daniella Berkson, sells pieces that are fashion forward and supremely wearable and friendly on the wallet. Their summer selections have me yearning for the cold weather to go away and were my morning inspiration to switch out my winter boots for spring sandals. Berkson's store is pin-point on trend for the spring season. The site is full of floaty blouses, skater dresses, stripes and peter pan collars.

As you should know by this point (I have been blogging for almost two years now) I am not easily pleased when it comes to clothes, especially dresses. The Kay Striped Dress is an optical illusion I can get used to and would love to force upon those I encounter on a daily basis. The flattering fit-and-flare style is comfortable to wearers and pleasing to the eye. A combination of asymmetric and horizontal creates perfect lines on the female form and basic black and white allows this dress to be jazzed up with colorful accessories or perhaps a pop of color on the feet.

Humble Chic continues to be stitch perfect with the Carrie Skirt. Reminiscent of Kate Spade's Carolyn Stripes, this skirt is the perfect length for work or play. I'm a sucker for fuller skirts and the pleats on the Carrie give it just enough flounce to be fun.

If you saw any of the FW'13 NYFW runways –then you know that black is back. What's great about this color trend is that it can be classy or crazy, depending on what accessories you chose to wear. Humble Chic sells more then great clothes. They have the accessories to match.

I found the Petunia Necklace on the site and would pair it with the Carrie Skirt in a heartbeat.  It's not quite big enough to be considered a bib, but it's certainly has enough flash to be called a statement piece. An outfit is never complete without an accessory and this necklace is the perfect topper to a monochromatic ensemble.

What I love the most about Humble Chic is their price point. As a college student, sometimes your wardrobe just needs a quick pick-me-up. Most dresses on the site are under $80, skirts under $50 and necklaces under $40.

These are the perfect prices for trend pieces that are meant to do nothing more then brighten up a bland closet.

  1. Awesome, we need more recessionista places to shop! It's not hard looking good for less, it just takes creativity, which sadly many people lack these days, but for the minority with style and creativity, this recession cannot hold back our boldness!
