Erin, Oh Erin -- Erin by Erin Fetherston SS'13

Erin Fetherston held the presentation of her Erin Erin Fetherston line at The Standard High Line just days before the start of NYFW. I was thrilled to have scored an invite to the event that I can only really describe as a fashion party. There were models in Fetherson's latest creations posted every so many feet on the river facing deck bar, waiters carrying signature confections like the "french kiss" (mixed watermelon and vodka) and celebrities and socialites blending into the crowd.

Fetherston's fete started with the opening of the elevator doors, when the critic crowd was pushed into the party and then awed by the designs juxtaposed against the setting sun.  Mary Bove ["Style Splash" feature on this site and photo wonderkin] and I started on the far end of the bar and worked our way to the ping-pong tables (yes, ping-pong tables). The first four looks we saw were shockingly bright and eye-catching. The dresses were tones of tangerine, each created with a different color technique to set it apart from the others. The first was a column gown with a ruched bodice, it's mate was cocktail length with the ruching creating a twisted appearance at the waist. It was also slightly ombre. The ombre theme ran into the next dress which was a halter style and much more laid back. It was standing next to a metallic tangerine party dress that featured a more structured trumpet bottom and sweetheart neckline.

The next set was much darker and more refined. The series of looks took the viewer to a more professional place. One of my two favorite dresses was seen here, the gold peplum with a web-like print all over and a black collar to top it all off. Paired with Fetherston's signature headband this, to a tee, is something I would wear. The black sheath next to the peplum is another strong piece from the collection. I particularly enjoyed the serpent that wrapped around the neck of the dress.

Fetherston then softened the collection with the introduction of pale pink, as seen in the photo above and to the right. She also put a model in pants, more than once! First in a short and blazer combo suit and then again in a funky animal print jumpsuit.

While I completely support the idea that Erin girls can indeed wear pants, I still die for the classically feminine dresses the brand is famous for.  Thankfully, there was more that I had not seen yet including more ombre, feathers and pastel dresses.  Erin's SS'13 collection branched from where she was with the new contemporary line while staying true to it's roots. The presentation was the perfect outlet to display this, starting how most fashion showcases do but then taking a twist and turning into a concert--a great analogy for Fetherston's spring/summer 2013 line.

It was during the second portion of this event that Mary and I mingled with the celebs and socialites that I mentioned earlier. We also got to meet Fetherston's muse and the evening's entertainment, Alexandra McDermott.

The venue was to die for, with a wall of large white balloons reflecting the setting sun into the dark wooden room. It was here that we settled in for the concert and began talking to the girl standing next to us. Before we knew it, Padma Lakshmi was talking to us and this girl and congratulating her on her new movie. We inadvertently struck-up a conversation with starlet-on-the-rise and star of "The Odd Life of Timothy Green" Odeya Rush.  Odeya was incredibly nice and down to earth, Mary and I were shocked that this lovely girl was a movie star. We talked about babysitting, movies and then wished her the best then we then moved forward and got spots front and center for the concert.

The show was a three song set. Fetherston introduced her muse, high school senior and budding songstress Alexandra McDermott. McDermott sang covers of "Big Jet Plane" and a snappy version of "Valerie". The 18 year old has no original tracks, she officially signed to ONE Management the day before the performance.

All in all the day was a massive success. Mary and I did not die, though we did enjoy a cocktail or two during and after the presentation. The collection is a perfect mix of new and classic Fetherston and i'm sure will be a hit with Erin girls.

One final note--I couldn't fit this dress anywhere else, but I am obsessed with it. It reminds me so much of that fabulous nude tutu dress that Carrie Bradshaw/Sarah Jessica Parker wore in the opening title sequence of "Sex In The City". What can I say? I am a girl who dies for a great feathered skirt.
