Late September in New York City is basically June. I swear that the temperatures are still in the high 70s every day. Even though everyone could be wearing shorts, fall fever is in the air. The problem with this is that it is too warm to break out the coats and knee high boots but too cool for tank-tops and sundresses. Luckily the most fashionable New Yorkers have come up with a simple solution: mid-calf socks.
There are many mid-calf length pieces that come off as unflattering and scary but mid-calf height socks are actually very chic.
As these stocking feet hit the runways last week they are also hitting the streets of NYC. The socks accentuate the rest of the leg assuming this trend is worn with a shirt no longer than mid-thigh. Wearing anything else would be blatantly pointless, right? These socks also draw the eye up to a focus on the derrière but with a more mysterious feel that model and student alike can appreciate.
With the summer of 2011 coming to an end this is the perfect time to show off those nice, toned and tan legs of yours. Why not? These short-stockings are a super cheap addition to any wardrobe. Paired with a great ankle boot or a cute left-over-from-summer sandal they will make a statement without overpowering your style. If you chose to go with a sandal try going for a pair with cut outs on the sides, they really are the best.

This NYC trend is a great opportunity for some self-expression. Remember all of those crazy socks you had as a kid? (I loved a pink polka dotted pair!) This is your chance to show off your personality a bit and while classic black is always nice I have seen some great neons and patterns running around.
No one can tell you what to wear and while some rules of fashion still apply there is no better time than the present to shatter them. Wear white after Labor Day and for the love of shoes throw some socks on before you leave the house.
In the words of Disney pop icon Hilary Duff, “Why not---take a crazy chance?”
While the mid-calf sock is perfect for the current temperatures, when the weather get a bit chillier and your sleeves get longer so should your socks. Don't be afraid to pull on a pair of printed knee socks under your Hunter boots to keep your feet from freezing! These stylish socks can carry you through your busy days year-round and leave plenty of room to let your inner child run rampant.
