Trendterpretation: Hosiery

In this new C&CB feature we will spotlight a major current trend and interpret it for the girl-on-the-go's everyday wear.

Trendterpretation: Hosiery- Patterned Tights, Printed Tights and Textured Tights

While we all have spring on our minds the truth is that it is still winter and for the next few months we will still be in winter-wear. One of the biggest trends this past fall and early winter was crazy legs. Whether your tights be printed, knitted or textured if you want to follow fashion, you must pull on this tight trend.

Textured Tights:
Textured tights are the easiest of tights in this trend-spot to pull off. Let's start by answering a simple question.  What is a textured tight?

Textured tights can be lace, knit patterns, fishnets, etc. Generally the textured tight is in a neutral color, making it ideal to wear under a more professional look. I personally wear a dark grey textured tight under my favorite "Mad Men"- esk magenta day dress with ballet flats of the same color. What is important when wearing this style is not to overpower the tights or go to crazy with patterns.

My magenta dress, as seen on College Fashionista (right) is solid and allows for the pattern in the tights to pop. As stated above, this is the most subtle of trendy tights and is the perfect way to jazz up a boring office ensemble. If you don't need to get dressed for a presentation or for the board room then the textured tight is just as stylish under a mini skirt (of simple nature of course). A tweed skirt would do. The best things about the textured tight is their subtle sexiness. It allows for peeks of the your leg to be exposed while continuing to cover you up and keep your lady-like composure.

Knitted Tights:
What are knit tights? Knitted tights are simply sweater tights, they are wonderful. This is my type of tight to wear during the winter months. It took me months to find the perfect knitted tights and when I stumbled into H&M on Chestnut Street in Philadelphia and they were on sale I bought three pairs. When I feel like staying in my pajamas all day long I burry myself in knit and pairing sweater tights with a sweater dress is knitted perfection. I recommend picking up this tight in black, tan, brown and navy. Once you do this you can basically wear sweater tights with anything that covers your bum.

Printed, Patterned Tights:
Wolford
Originally I hated the person who first decided to encourage people to wear leopard print, glitter tights in everyday life but once I embraced the hot mess that is Ke$ha I figured out a way to wear even this crazy trend. The key to all printed tights is to, yet again, only wear one print at a time. You do not want to or need to overpower yourself and your clothes. Let the piece pop on their own, don't force it with a million different patterns.

Topshop
By going to stores that sell unique clothes to start with, you can find great prints and patterns that are under $20 and will push your look to trend-perfection. The Topshop tights (right) are a great way to break up a monochromatic black ensemble. The gold pattern reminds me of a time past, yet with a great pair of platforms and a pencil skirt it would be oh so modern.

Whenever I feel like wearing something totally out there I check out ModCloth.com where I found the patterned wonders seen below. They are so busy yet with a black pair of dress shorts and a pink top they would be sure to help you stand out in the crowd and look absolutely fabulous.

The most important thing to remember when you decide to pull on a pair of printed, knitted or textured tights is that you are not wearing opaque leggings. I.E. If you move the wrong way or decide to wear them with (gasp) a tee-shirt the world will see everything you have going on down below the belt, something no one wants to see.

Bring back a classy time where people did not look like streetwalkers day and night and cover your derrière. Try putting on a simple skirt with your statement tights, a tank-top or blouse and a blazer to pull the look together.
