Long Live the Queen, and Johnnie Boden

In an area that only has standard mall stores for your shopping choices, NEPA had a string of luck back in January of 2008 when Boden opened its US shipping/ call center warehouse in Pittston, Pennsylvania.

This quick lapse of judgement aside by the part of Boden, putting a warehouse in an area when Macy's is the closest thing to couture. Local fashionistas quickly rejoiced when they learned of a special sale that would occur a few times a year. This sale would be a warehouse clearance sale, based on a first-come-first-serve basis.
At the sale, clothes are heaped onto tables barely organized by size (european of course). If you have the patience to sort through loads of clothing, an eye for spotting that jumper you've loved for the past year and the mind to convert your size to the european sizing scale then this sale is the perfect opportunity to get some truly unique clothes for at least 75% off the ticket price.
For those of you who are virgins to the clearance/sample sale scene, be prepared to wake up super early and stand in line with hundreds of other slaves of style. Boden will provide you with a thin plastic bag for you to carry your spoils in but those who have partaken in previous sales will advise you to bring a bag of your own for the carrier provided will break once weighted. Another tidbit which a sale attendee may find useful comes courtesy of my mother, bring a mirror. I'm not talking about a small hand mirror, i'm talking that thing hanging on the back of your bedroom door.
The sale does not have dressing rooms or mirrors, so if you are like myself and want to see what something looks like before you commit, bring a mirror. I would also recommend wearing leggings and a tank-top. This way you can try clothing on without being that creepy person stripping in the corner. This sale is a big deal, often attracting people from New York, New Jersey and Maryland because it is the only opportunity to shop for Boden threads in person.
Boden is a strictly online only store, based out of the UK.

While the Boden website is very user friendly and they have a rather liberal return policy, it's regularly rather pricy. A tunic from the British designer will run you anywhere from $78 to $128 plus shipping and handling. While this is already pricy enough, if you don't like it you then have to send it back. In the end it can cost you a lot of time and money.
This sale which pops up around the end of each season is a great opportunity for those who are willing to work for their bargains, paying off big time in the end.
