Being a Milly Brand Ambassador has it's perks. Every now and then you get a discount, sometimes you get invites to special events and if you refer a lot of sales you'll even get a gift card to spend on yourself. If you do a really good job though, you'll get tickets to a fashion show. I received two tickets to the SS'13 show because I was named the Ambassador of the Month. I.E. I sold a lot of dresses.

Michelle Smith presented the Milly NY SS'13 collection on September 12 to a full house on the stage at Lincoln Center as a part of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. The collection was a departure from the classically preppy lines of seasons past. Smith's designs showed technical expertise with photosynthetic prints and laser-cut mesh applied to a sportier wear but gone were the structured jackets and ladylike dresses that Milly girls have learned to love.
She drew inspiration from surrealism and showed a collection that played with the eye in a Trompe-l'œil way. The use of fabrics created dimension and made the viewer wonder if they were seeing a fantastic photosynthetic or if Smith had actually captured smoke in a texture.

A simple sundress becomes transformed into a master magician's illusion as yellow and brown smoke appears to liquify the bottom of a floaty dress. Playful scuba dresses in bold tones catch the eye and brighten up the runway in neon coral, mentino, lapis and citron white the base of optic white and black keeps the line tied together.

While spring may be a few months away, Smith launched the pre-spring collection on her site early last week and cruise has been for sale since early in the month. Pre-spring shows hints of the spring line, but seems far less sporty then the line that was showed in September. Pieces like the clear raincoat and the Diana sweetheart dress blur the line between classic and modern. The graphics are edgy and fun while clean and preppy.

The majority of the pre-spring line is uber-fem, fun and flirty. The Claudia strapless dress and Isabelle short dress are perfect examples of classic, preppy Milly graphics on fun dresses.
Expect more like the Lia Trim Blazer shown above right in the spring line. Smith is attempting to take tweed and make it into a sportswear staple.
I am curious to see what Smith does this February with FW'13. Last year she introduced the color palate that she has continued to use to date--but as everyone knows, nothing stays the same in the fashion world for too long and if SS'13 and the pre-spring line are any indicators we should expect more pops of tangerine and the prep line pushed into more modern territory.
