March
In the month of March I want to wear something that screams 'Thank goodness, it's finally springtime!" When I think spring I think florals, groundbreaking, I know. I also think of pastels, color-blocking, cuffs and ballet flats all of which lend themselves perfectly to a spring-tastic ensemble.
The Outfit
This month i'm going to build your outfit from the bottom, up. Ballet flats are the ideal shoe for springtime. They give you the ability to run around to do whatever you need without slowing you down or causing you to trip. Cheap flats die during the month of March, when mixed weather and excessive movement quickly wear down the exteriors causing rips and a breakdown of the footbed, making the shoe lose it's support. The Frye woven ballet flat, shown right, is perfectly versatile and can be worn from spring to fall. Frye is a brand that stands by its products, justifying the $188.00 price-tag. These flats are sure to endure and will look super stylish while lasting through the seasons.
When i'm getting dressed in the mornings I pull on my pants before I can even think about the other portions of the outfit. Colored denim is a huge trend this spring and one of the things I always do during the month of March is cuff my jeans. Every store from Walmart to Saks is stocked with green jeans, so to be chic this spring colored jeans are a must. Why not just pick up a pair of pre-cuffed green jeans. Citizens of Humanity never disappoints with their soft and incredibly flattering jeans. I love the tone of the Dani colored skinny in wheat grass. It's bright but not obnoxious, something I never want my pants to be. These pants run pretty standard to most Citizens, retailing at $185.00.
People always ask me what colors are safe to wear together and the answer is simple, when you are wearing a bright, pull a neutral and you are set to go! Navy and green go together better than peanut butter and jelly on whole grain wheat, so of course the perfect compliment to these green jeans is a feminine navy blouse.
I found this Robbi & Nikki blouse and fell in love. The navy crinkled chiffon is the perfect springtime fabric choice. The top can easily be worn on its own or with a jacket or cardigan and the detail is impeccable. The simplicity of this top balances out the brashness of the bright colored denim and the buttons pull it together, making it perfectly lady-like. I have found such great pieces by Robbi & Nikki on clearance racks and this top is no exception. While it was originally for sale on Bluefly for $185 it is now marked down to $45.49.
In Northeast Pennsylvania you cannot wear just cropped jeans and a chiffon top in March (well, you can but you will freeze). I find that blazers are the perfect addition to a casual spring outfit and this floral one from Pim + Larkin is pin-point on trend. As I stated earlier, when I think spring I think florals. This floral blazer from Pim + Larkin is so beyond flowered, though. It's edgy. It does not look like happy blooms, it has a unique cut and is begging to have it's sleeves cuffed.
This will look great over the Robbi & Nikki top and Citizens of Humanity jeans or over a LBD (little black dress) for a night on the town. $79 is way less than outrageous for a blazer and this one button number from Pim + Larkin is sure to compliment, not to mention that it can so be worn all year 'round.
To top off this outfit i'm going to pull one accessory, a purse, of course. Once you get dressed and are running out the door you need a bag big enough to fit all of your necessities but cute enough to be worn with this epic ensemble. Enter the papaya colored, MAT & NAT vegan leather Devo bag. The Devo is 14.5” x 11.5” x 5.5”, which is plenty big for the girl on the go. The papaya pops against the green jeans and navy blouse while complimenting the pinkish tones in the Pim + Larkin blazer.
Pink is always a good color for a spring/summer purse. It is happy and bright while appearing completely professional. The DEVO is a bag that can easily make it's way to NYC to see the MET Prada v. Schiaparelli exhibit or to the Jersey shore to catch some rays and get away.
Dressing for March can be a bit tricky at times with the inconstant weather and temperature, changing trends and mixed wardrobe. Remembering not to get to wild with your style but staying fresh enough for springtime will keep you on trend.
