Leather, Leather Everywhere

If there is one trend that I have gone mad over it is leather everything. I need it. I want it. My life needs to happen in it. Earlier in the season I mentioned fabulous Balmain leather pants. My obsession goes far beyond pants. Over the past few days I have seen everything from leather paneled dresses, opera length leather gloves and the classic leather jacket taken to new heights with the additions of quilting, studs and embellishments.

What autumn wants is for good girls to put away the soft supple cashmere and look like a badass for once, but with an infusion of the lady-like looks I know and love. My merger of these two contradictive looks involves two stops, Milly NY (for the lady-like lovelies) and Zara (for lots of leather).

This season Zara is chockfull of great leather jackets. My absolute favorite is the biker jacket with zips on the shoulders. This traditional black leather biker gets an edgy twist with the addition of rows of zippers on the shoulders. The jacket has an asymmetric zip and it's exterior is 95% lambskin. The 5% that is not lambskin is the soft polyester patch that runs under each arm, giving the jacket a bit more flexibility than the average leather jacket.

If you like the styling of this jacket but are turned off by the cloth underarm, then Zara's traditional leather jacket is for you.  This jacket is 100% lambskin with a polyester lining, standard in many leather pieces. This jacket is great for the girl who wants the vibe but doesn't feel like making a huge statement. It is also perfect for mixing and matching with more feminine pieces. If you want to stay at Zara for these then I would recommend going with a statement bottom.

Printed pants are always something we see during the warmer months so why not transition them into the winter? This green argyle jacquard pant from Zara is just the ticket. The pant is cropped, the print is bold and the waistband is elastic--what more could a girl ask for?  Paired with a black biker jacket and you have a bold look that any fashion mag editor would wear. Just pair with a statement shoe and you are ready to go.

Personally, i'm not one to gravitate toward pants. I would much rather pair an edgy jacket with a great skirt or dress. This being said, peplums are still having their moment so why not mix these two trends? To find a great peplum dress I suggest you leave Zara and head over to Milly NY. The feminine, fashion forward brand always has the best skirts and dresses that are made to an impeccable quality. Many pieces of the FW'12 line are perfect for mixing and matching with these chic jackets but I feel that the combo peplum dress is just the bees knees for this look. With it's graffiti'd top and shocking pink peplum bottom, this combo dress is perfect for breaking up with a leather jacket. The dress is edgy on it's own. It is also already made to look like two separate pieces.

If separates are more thing than I suggest that you die for the Karina skirt. The classic combination of black and white is always in style. Add the elegant lace detail of this high-waisted skirt with the downtown street style of a biker jacket and you will have an outfit hit on your hands. The skirt is wool and silk organza, allowing it to be warm and structured all at the same time. The skirt has a more full shape with the jacket you pair it with will be more fitted, creating an appealing contrast.

Fall is my favorite season, for many reasons. I think that my favorite thing about it is that the clothing just seems to be better. The not-to-hot, not-to-cold weather allows you to play with textures and fabrics that would so not be able to be worn any other time of the year and the ability to layer allows creative dressers to dress their best and combine great pieces for fantastic outfits.
